Summary

Elena
To most, Kal Anderson is a villain。
Harbinger of death, keeper of souls, frequenter of nightmares。
Doctor Death。 Hades incarnate。
They say he stole me。
Usurped my fiancé and filled the cracks in my heart with empty promises。
Imprinted his crimson fingerprints on my psyche and tried to set me free。
They’re not wrong, per se。
Except it was my choice to stay。

Kal
To most, Elena Ricci is an innocent。
Goddess of springtime, lover of poetry, angel of my nightmares。
Little one。 Persephone personified。
They say I ruined her。
Shattered her virtue and devoured her soul like a succulent pomegranate。
Embedded my evil as deep as I could possibly get and tried to set her free。
They’re not wrong, per se。
Except it was she who ruined me。

**Promises and Pomegranates is a full-length, standalone, dark contemporary romance based loosely on the framework/characters from the Hades and Persephone myth。 It features mature themes, explicit scenes, triggers, and strong language。 If you’re not a reader of the genre, this book may not be suitable for you。 Reader discretion is advised。

3。75-4 STARS!Hmmm。 This book had so much potential to be a 5 star read for me。 First of all, I was heavily intrigued by Kal when we has mentioned in Sweet Sacrifice and Sweet Solitude。 I just knew that his character alone deserved his own book。 I was hella excited when I found out Miller did write a story for him。 The first 50% chapters of the book, I feel like I could've rated the book 4。5-5 stars。 It's when the PROBLEM revealed itself, did I start having problems with it。 This is going to be a 3。75-4 STARS!Hmmm。 This book had so much potential to be a 5 star read for me。 First of all, I was heavily intrigued by Kal when we has mentioned in Sweet Sacrifice and Sweet Solitude。 I just knew that his character alone deserved his own book。 I was hella excited when I found out Miller did write a story for him。 The first 50% chapters of the book, I feel like I could've rated the book 4。5-5 stars。 It's when the PROBLEM revealed itself, did I start having problems with it。 This is going to be a full on spoiler: the hero fucked the heroine's mom in the past。 OK, OK。 I know that I'm into questionable and fucked up heroes, but that's where I draw the line。 I know that it happened in the past and all, but I can't seem to view Kal differently after the truth was revealed。 Yes, it is wholly the mother's fault for grooming him, I just don't get how fast Elena forgave him! She was hurting so much after she found out, so I have no idea how she was able to forgive him after being fucked hard by him。 Hmm, just doesn't sit right with me。 Kal and Elena's story had so much potential, seriously。 I liked the story, but I didn't love it。 I can't picture myself re-reading this book in the future。 Which is a shame really, because the moments where they were revealing their true selves to each other was hella sweet。 Sigh。 The steam was off the charts (although I'm not fond of the blood kink between the two, bcs uh, I'm not a fan of blood), but I feel like it focused too much on the sex instead of the plot。 The blackmail part of the marriage I'm still a little bit confused about (especially when we find out it's Riley all along)。 Nevertheless, I'm happy that they finally got their happy ending。 And, they finally have a kid together! What I liked most about the book:- the steam, the dirty talking- the bits of literature threw in。 the fact that Kal writes poetry, so does Elena。 What I didn't like about this book:- when we found out Kal fucked Elena's mom when he was younger。 I think it would've been fine if feelings weren't involved, but from my end it did seem like Kal really liked Carmen in the past。 - the fact that Kal wrote POETRY for Elena's mom。 No, just yuck。 。。。more

Laugh-Out-Loud Funny!100% convinced that this is twilight fanfic。 There is even, I shit you not, an unironic homage to Olaf。Be sure to read this with others because friends don't let friends read traumatic books alone。 Set the expectation bar on the lowest possible setting, take a couple of tequila shots, and pump it twice like Papa taught you。 Enjoyed the hell out of this book。 To quote my dear friend Liz, "The most fun I never want to have again。" Laugh-Out-Loud Funny!100% convinced that this is twilight fanfic。 There is even, I shit you not, an unironic homage to Olaf。Be sure to read this with others because friends don't let friends read traumatic books alone。 Set the expectation bar on the lowest possible setting, take a couple of tequila shots, and pump it twice like Papa taught you。 Enjoyed the hell out of this book。 To quote my dear friend Liz, "The most fun I never want to have again。" 。。。more

Feel bad because I didn’t really enjoy this。 The major plot twist made me feel super uncomfortable so please read the trigger warnings prior to reading this book。 I also felt like the chemistry between both characters felt forced and most of what Kal said during their intimate scenes just… no。 🤢 I felt like the plot had potential but didn’t live up to the expectations which is a shame。 Really sad I didn’t like this。

If Hades and Persephone's story was a mafia romance, this would be it。 This was dark and dirty, with capital Ds。 The heat was enough to make you sweat and I love a morally gray MC。 Dual POV makes this book irresistible, but check TWs before reading。 Also a specific *kink* that may be offensive or crude to some。 HOWEVER, I give this a solid 4。5 stars。 Can't wait to read her next in this Monsters & Muses series。 If Hades and Persephone's story was a mafia romance, this would be it。 This was dark and dirty, with capital Ds。 The heat was enough to make you sweat and I love a morally gray MC。 Dual POV makes this book irresistible, but check TWs before reading。 Also a specific *kink* that may be offensive or crude to some。 HOWEVER, I give this a solid 4。5 stars。 Can't wait to read her next in this Monsters & Muses series。 。。。more

I was promised a loose retelling of Hades and Persephone and honestly it did a pretty good job at that。 But。。。 where was the plot ? It sucks because making a mafia Hades and Persephone retelling was a great idea and this book had so much potential to be great but in the end。。。 nothing mattered。 I was also really confused by who was the blackmailer it just didn't make any sense to me。 The plot was just really lacking there was no suspense and none of the enemies were credible。 The characters also I was promised a loose retelling of Hades and Persephone and honestly it did a pretty good job at that。 But。。。 where was the plot ? And it was hot to be honest so I wasn't really bothered by it。。。 just genuinely found it funny。This book also suffers from the "A Touch Of Ruin" (2nd book in the Hades and Persephone series, I recommend you to read my review about it) syndrome。 Meaning that the 2 main characters literally can't do ANYTHING without having sex。 Like girl。。。 are you not in pain after doing so much the deed ? Take a break ! Even when she's rightfully angry and upset at him and her whole family she's still getting laid。 What kind of self-esteem is that ? They don't know how to communicate at all。 And I also couldn't feel the age gap between Elena and Kal which is a bit concerning in my opinion since he's supposed to show at least a bit more maturity than a literal 18/19 y。o (that man is 32 !)。The smut was okay。 I liked it but I've read better。 When he was name calling her or chocking her or with his knife I was like 😍🦋😍 that's hot ! But I have some authors in mind that would have written it even hotter (I hope it's not a mean thing to say because I did enjoy it as it is)。 It was crude but not vulgar or necessarily disgusting compared to some other books I've read。 But keep in mind it's kinky so if that's not your kind of thing stay away from this book。 Especially if you don't like knife play, blood play or name calling。 You've been warned。 To sum it up, good idea, bad execution but the smut isn't bad and I enjoyed it。 。。。more

Oh my lord I don’t know where to start with this book。I’ll start of by saying that usually when books don’t have a big side plot I get bored, but this was not the case for me! I often have issues with the progression of how the characters interact and their feelings towards each other but this book nailed everything I love when it comes to the evolution of a relationship! Would 100% recommend this book if you love Hades & Persephone and also love a good mafia book。 4。5/5⭐️ 。。。more

Oh my yum。 Ms。 Miller, you've done it again。 If you've read anything else by this author, you're in for a good time。 This one is even hotter。 This book focuses on Kal Anderson (or Dr。 Death), who's been featured lightly in previous books。 This is still in the same world as the King's Trace Antiheroes series, so there are some crossover characters。 You do NOT need to have read that series to read this book。 But Kal Anderson has, unsurprisingly for someone known as Dr。 Death and a 'fixer' for the Oh my yum。 Ms。 Miller, you've done it again。 If you've read anything else by this author, you're in for a good time。 This one is even hotter。 This book focuses on Kal Anderson (or Dr。 Death), who's been featured lightly in previous books。 This is still in the same world as the King's Trace Antiheroes series, so there are some crossover characters。 You do NOT need to have read that series to read this book。 But Kal Anderson has, unsurprisingly for someone known as Dr。 Death and a 'fixer' for the Boston mafia family, a dark, sad past。 Elena Ricci is the eldest daughter in the mafia family and she's been known to be a bit of a people pleaser。 The story starts out with these two already having shared a particular secret between them and this book is really the story of the consequence of that secret (not staying so secret)。 Kal and Elena, much like the Hades and Persephone mythos they're meant to emulate, are beautifully cracked mirrors for each other's soul's flaws。 And boy are they drawn to each other with a heat that'll make ya blush。 I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes to delve into the shadows are frolic among their depths。 Because Kal and Elena are a smouldering story not unlike Hades and Persephone, but with even MORE flawed families (which, if you know anything about Greek Mythos, that's saying something)。 。。。more

4。5stars。 I loved the relationship and the banter, I just docked it half a star because I would say it’s actually that dark。

I love love love Promises and Pomegranates! All and Elena’s story is so intriguing and how it’s parallels to Persephone and Hades is perfect! This is not quite a retelling but it has the same atmospheric vibe! Dr Death has found his sweet spring sunshine and he intends to keep her!

CW: Body modification, kidnapping, murder, general gore, torture, CNCThis uh hit all the spots for me but I would say proceed with caution for most。 I really liked how lose of a retelling this was and how dark it went。

This book people is everything I needed but didn't know I needed。 This was my first book from Ms Miller and trust me I will be reading more because omg did I love this book。 This was a dark, Hades & Persephone retelling but make it mafia and spicy。 Kallum, Kallum, Kallum, the doctor and man you need。 The story follows Elena and a new obsession of mine Kallum。 Kal is a retired doctor and hitman for Elena's father, a Bostonian Don, who wiggles his way into a marriage of convenience with Elena。 Thi This book people is everything I needed but didn't know I needed。 This was my first book from Ms Miller and trust me I will be reading more because omg did I love this book。 This was a dark, Hades & Persephone retelling but make it mafia and spicy。 Kallum, Kallum, Kallum, the doctor and man you need。 The story follows Elena and a new obsession of mine Kallum。 Kal is a retired doctor and hitman for Elena's father, a Bostonian Don, who wiggles his way into a marriage of convenience with Elena。 This book was perfectly balanced between plot and spice and I loved every second of it。 It was the unaliving people for me, the marking for me, the "little one" for me。 I can't wait for more of her books。 。。。more

If not, why add it to the tomes of unnecessary text that already exists? - Mainly the author thinks she’s writing whimsically/lyrically/poetically but it’s so contrived and have so many inner monologue segues that are so monotonous, it was so hard to get through this book- Add to all of that the hero really wasn’t in love with her initially - he loved her mother and she thought the poems he was writing to her mother were for her, it’s just bizarre- Lastly, unnecessary violence that adds nothing to the plot and is just there to add to the word count or shock factor。 For eg he breaks her mother’s hand in the first couple of scenes。 Okay, it seems to say she didn’t want to have his baby but if he’s so broken up about the love of his life (the mother mind you) not legitimising their affair, that’s not reason enough to *break her hand*!! - Also, he comes to Elena and says oh, I think your father has cameras in the house and is watching us。 What does Elena do? Decide to give *her father* a ‘show’。 I mean whaaa? - Lastly, too many additional characters that add *nothing* to the plot are introduced。 The author wants to have other books - I appreciate that - but *this* book is about *this* couple or should be atleast rather than trying to force feed the reader other characters esp when this book itself is long, verbose, convoluted, boring and monotonous already! Such a shame because it really could have been good with a bit of thought applied to it and some good feedback readers/editors 。。。more

Angry sex is the best sex。 And I was cheering for Elena like "YES GIRL MAKE YOUR MAMA LISTEN” 😤 (read it and you'll understand)。 I love when the characters can be a little petty。 THE ONLY suggestion I have is I would of liked more of a prequel of Kallum and Carmen's story。 Like, homegirl was going to catch these hands regardless👊🏾🤜🏾, but I would have loved to read about their relationship a little more。 But yes, she was still getting beat the fuck up。 Kallum still went too easy on her if you asked me 😡。 Like how dare you groom him and make him feel unlovable?! the writer failed at writing this love story。hero was obsessed with the heroine’s mom writing poetry about her and everything。 im mad because this had so much potential plus the writing was good。 i just couldn’t help but think the heroine was a rebound。 no grovel no nothing。 best thing is that when she got annulment papers she’s the one who went after to HIM when it should be the other way around since you know he lied about everything。
